We have just been migrated to 'New and Better' application for accounting for our time spent per project at work. I think I am average employee who works roughly 40 hours a week. I can divide my time into MAXIMUM 7 different types of work....
- holiday (including flexi-time and time-off-in-lieu)
- sick (including time at home for sick offspring)
- network support (when stuff goes wrong)
- network implementation (new stuff)
- firewall support (when stuff goes wrong)
- firewall implementation (new stuff)
- meetings to discuss all the stuff that went wrong and the new stuff coming)
I have never seen such a bloated piece of software in my life (I have been in the computer industry for over 30 years). There are nearly 50 drop-down / roll-over / menu items on just the first page alone. When I go to choose the projects I would like to book my time to I am presented with over 140 choices (good grief)
Why couldn't I just have the projects I am allowed to book against? Why is it that more and more work is being done be the worker? There are no more secretaries because everyone uses a word processor! I even have to do my own performance review!
Oh yes the name of this wonderful piece of totally over priced over sized (it uses megabytes of space) over functioned (I don't want to look at how much time I had off-sick 2 years ago)...

Eggs - women - books
I was in a book shop the other day and I starting thinking about the link between the biology books (I was looking for a book for my son's school work) to the women around me in the shop.
I estimated about 50 women on the two floors of the shop - according to the biology book each woman is born with around 400'000 eggs. Of these about 450 are actually used (to be fertilised or as waste during their periods).
Here is the maths;

50 times 400'000 is 20'000'000
50 times 450 is 22'500
so just the women in the same shop as I was, have the potential to generate, using artificial means, the whole population of Australia or naturally as the Swiss town of Montreux!!
BOOKS - TV - CENSORSHIP
I have just read that over 800 books are being published today - wow I am so happy that my children read. They read just about anything they can lay their hands on in both English and French. I would like to think this a direct result of us throwing the TV away about 10 years ago - we never looked back and life is just so much more interesting. We meet way too many people who would have a life themselves if they stopped watching other peoples on so called 'reality tv shows'.
I would love to get one of those t-shirts which says "I have a first life" :-)
However I also need to highlight that it is "Banned Books Week" (link HERE) Yes there are still people who try and have books which upset them or go against their own beliefs banned - so that YOU don't even get to make you own mind up.
